No Entry

Urban exploration;

is the exploration of man-made structures, usually abandoned ruins or not usually seen components of the man-made environment.

Before the advent of a definition for a non-conformist act in itself I would never have considered myself to be an 'Urban Explorer'. There is simply a certain allure towards an abandoned or derelict structure that appeals to the curious mind, something I have felt for as long as I can remember.

For me it is not the adrenaline of gaining entry, but merely being present in a place you would never ordinarily have been. A place where someone lived or thousands of people have been before you to work or play, now there is only you.

The history of such a place leaves behind an atmosphere that can only be described by experience. In documenting these places we are passing on a sign of our times, through industrialisation to recession, and re-building.

What follows are my exploits in discovering a world unseen by most, laying right before our eyes.

Take only photographs, leave only footprints.

Esoteric Eric.

  1. Fabulous!! Great to see what you're up to! Especially since it definitely resonates with the younger self I remember 'tagging' underground tunnels. Great photos, writing and passion!
