Regal Cinema, Rotherham

One from February 2022 recently released for public consumption.

History

Built for Thomas Wade Cinemas of Wath-upon-Dearne, the Regal Cinema opened on the 22nd December 1934 with Leslie Howard in 'Girls Please'. After several changes of owner and name the cinema became the Mecca Bingo, where it continued operating until March 2020 when it closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The building failed to sell and was at risk of demolition until it was designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage in November 2021.
