History
Built for Thomas Wade Cinemas of Wath-upon-Dearne, the Regal Cinema opened on the 22nd December 1934 with Leslie Howard in 'Girls Please'. The cinema was designed by Hull based architectural firm Messrs Blackmore & Sykes, also known for the Carlton, Hull, and had 1,825 seats (1,097 stalls, 728 circle).
After several changes of owner and name the cinema became the Mecca Bingo, where it continued operating until March 2020 when it closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The building failed to sell and was at risk of demolition until it was designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage in November 2021.
