Guest and Chrimes, Rotherham

History

The first maker of water taps, James Payne, owned a small factory in Water Lane. Peter G Chrimes, a plumber in the town, patented an improvement in these taps, and for the purpose of manufacturing them, founded the firm of Guest and Chrimes.

Rotherham United football club purchased the site in 2010 to build their New York Stadium and have since applied to have the Grade II listed building entirely demolished but no work has started as yet and the factory itself is up for sale for redevelopment:
